To research the intersection between nighttime economy governance of cities, arts and culture and the impact this has on safety and accessibility for women and marginalised communities.
I propose to investigate the role of arts and culture in creating a safer city within the nighttime economy, with a focus on the potential impact of a Night Mayor or Mayoress of the Night in bridging these aspects.
By examining this intersection, I aim to understand how cultural initiatives contribute to urban safety and inclusivity during night hours and how a Night Mayor can play a pivotal role in the governance and coordination and amplification of these efforts.
This research will explore strategies that leverage arts-based interventions to enhance public spaces, foster community cohesion, and what other civic infrastructure, design, planning or legislation is needed to pave the way for a vibrant and secure nighttime economy.
