James Hornsby

James Hornsby is a multi-disciplinary artist known for his distinctive aesthetic and experimental approach to image-making. Hornsby’s practice responds to our ever-increasing use of digital imaging technologies and our creation of new realities that are equal parts seductive and chaotic. Hornsby’s work has been described as explosive, bold, hyper-real, psychedelic and unhinged.

James is known for pushing boundaries and dismantling traditional photographic techniques in order to depict the unnerving effects of technology and the chaos of contemporary life. He uses his own very unique style to create and transform pieces using layering, collaging, painting and graphic art. Hornsby has worked with the likes of Vogue Magazine, Vans, Universal Music and Sony Music and has received awards from the Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Centre for Photography, and was also a finalist in The Walls’ ‘PrizeNoPrize’ competition.

Hornsby’s art has been exhibited in public and commercial galleries and festivals across Australia, including OneSpace – one of Hornsby’s favourite places to create. Onespace is particularly special for James, as the gallery has welcomed him with open arms, allowing him to form strong connections with the Onespace team and showcase his work here whenever possible.

Hornsby is one of our Twelve to Watch as an exciting, young trailblazer in the digital imaging art form.
