Amihan Aquilizan

She’s a contemporary fashion designer whose unique flare and ability to draw inspiration from all facets of life solidifies her as one to watch! She has plans to start a fashion brand, but most enjoys designing and creating clothing for the people she loves. Amihan uses raw, unconventional materials in her designs to connect and reflect on her culture in an original way. She is highly skilled at creating garments that tell a story, embedding passion and soul into each piece.  She endorses a sustainable approach to fashion – quality needs to be put into garments, so people cherish them for longer.

Amihan’s family were part of the diaspora, and moved from the Philippines to Australia when she was young. Her parents – who also express their culture through art – have passed on their sense of creativity and sentiment to their children. Amihan uses her practice to reconnect and relearn her Filipino heritage in a highly sustainable way, using natural fibres and dead stock to produce her work. She met us at the art gallery, a place close to her heart, as Amihan grew up around and worked in the space, with her parents and her siblings working closely alongside her.
